From spring to summer

I have to say, this post was actually meant to be showcasing things I have made for myself, but I managed to get pneumonia. Pneumonia with 40C fever so let’s just say this ain’t going to happen although I am now on a getting better road. As you can think, one week high fever also messed up all my sewing plans so here I am, kinda in a trouble, but let’s just say, blogger always tries to find her way out.
So today I am telling you about our transitioning from spring to summer. To be honest, our springs are cold and summers are not really warm either. So this brings us to a problem, what to wear? When before sewing I would have struggled with clothing DD as there is never weatherapproriate clothing in the stores now I have no problem with her. She has a style of her own so sometimes things are not going the way I want to and I have to try something on her numerous times before she agrees to wear something 🙂 This is exactly how it went with the Twig + Tale Pixie shorts (link!) I added detachable bow and when at the beginning she didn’t like the shorts she is now loving them. Since most of the time it is still pretty coldish here she wears shorts with tights. And layers, tons of layers to change troughout day depending on the weather. So now I’ll show you the Pixies in different situations just because I can and we both love them!

Kids transition from spring to summer

When everybody else in this blog tour is thinking about transitioning from spring to summer, we, in Estonia are mostly thinking of transitioning from winter to spring. It has been long winter and luckily we have enjoyed some warmer weather too recently.

When I am transitioning my kids from spring to summer I am thinking of layers and ease of adding and taking off clothes.
While choosing patterns I try to choose the ones that have multiple sleeve length options because most of the time we need long sleeves, but in real summer we also need short sleeves or sleeveless. I actually prefer short sleeves because scandinavian kids tend to get sunburn really easily on their shoulders 😉
Since my 2yo now really vocally speaks about her clothing choices I need to speak with her before making something for her and even then she might not like some of the things I made her..

So for now we are mainly using combos with tights (If you have any good recommendations for tights patterns then feel free, to let me know 🙂 ). I would love to show you some of our recent loves, but these patterns are not available to buy yet so you’ll see them later 🙂
As what we talk about jackets and other outerwear I have some of our favorites collected here with our latest loves of clothes 🙂

We like to pair all of her clothes with either faux leather jacket (from Lindex), Polarn o. Pyret shell jacket or some of our Twig + Tale loves (Traveller cape and Pixie Pea coat)

As we are speaking about recent loves of clothing patterns I have two favorites. Misusu patterns Louise sweater (featuring short and long sleeves, dress and sweater length + a kangaroo pocket!) (link)

The other love is even newer on PDF pattern market, the Mandrake dress by Sew Like My Mom (link) featuring colorblocking, optional kangaroo pocket and sleeveless + short sleeves + elbow length sleeves + long sleeves! Seriously in love with this 🙂

Sewing Up Spring Blog tour

If we are thinking about sewing up spring my first thought was florals and this sew is a bit floral 😉 There is floral linen lining.
IMGP5470.JPG
I decided to go with Twig + Tale Traveller cape for this blog tour. Getting lighter clothes, more colors and florals is totally spring for me. This beautiful travellers cape is made out of Wool blend outer and Linen lining. Totally warm enough for our cold spring (It is still around 2C outside for us) and such a classic piece of clothing. DD wore it to a grocery store and there were many people who complimented her look 🙂

IMGP5471.JPG

How do you sew up spring? Have you ever tried anything from Twig and Tale? If not when you make your first purchase of 10$ or more you can get 5$ off by clicking on this link (Aff link) I get a small fee and you get 5$ off, win-win!

Show your Stoff – Girls edition

My plan for DD was leggings + batwing top combo. It is comfy, you can use both items with everything and it kinda works with my outfit too. So without further ado I’ll show you the Wiebke leggings (Aff link) and Kitty Batwing top(Aff link). Comfy option for home and around. Kitty batwing top is made with the same Viscose jersey I used for my Juliene and her leggings are basic CoEl. With Kitty I recommend you to choose a one size smaller than usual. This is 92, DD usually wears 92 and this is pretty big on her. I am still happy though, because it will get more use and now it just has rolled up cuffs.

With the photoshoot I decided to go with playing kiddo photos, just because this is what this outfit is made for, playing and lounging. Lounging isn’t something 2yo do often so lets just say playing 🙂

Color me lucky – Pantone spring ’17

pantone spring 2017.jpg
When I was trying to decide, which Pantone 2017 color to pick I had struggles. I wanted to pick Pale Dogwood or Hazelnut for myself, but at the same time thought about fabric I have in my stash. I came to a conclusion that I need to use my pretties from my inventory, so I decided to choose that beautiful green sweat I had. So I decided that greenery will be the color for this tour. Fabric chosen, now onto pattern. I only had 1m of it so something for me wasn’t going to happen, instead I had to choose something for DD. I thought until I saw her new love for her dolly and suddenly an idea came to my mind. What if I make them kinda matching outfits. A joggers and a hat. So there I was, trying to find a pattern for this smaller than usual doll. I remembered that I had Juniper joggers from Striped Swallow Designs and this has both dollie and DD size. Then there was question of hats, Dollies hat is Petite Stitchery & co free beanie in size doll, but since it is getting warmer I wanted something lighter for DD. I remembered that I have the Slouchy Beanie by Heidi & Finn, so hers is this, size 6m-2y.
Long story short – patterns chosen, fabric chosen, time to print and cut. All of the patterns were easy to print and tape (all except Heidi & Finn has layers). I cut them out and started serging. Then came the first problem. Juniper joggers size 2T inseams are different length!
All of the patterns I have gotten for free so total bargain! 😀

So here she is, in her beautiful greenery joggers and Bunny hat, made out of softest summer sweat I have ever touched!

Breaking ground – Hey June Tallinn sweater

To be honest Adrianna and Hey June isn’t new to me. I have known her and her patterns for almost as long as I have sewn with PDF-patterns (a.k.a almost a year now), but for a long time there was one big problem – my paypal 😀 And then she came out with the Tallinn sweater. If you aren’t familiar with me then you are probably thinking what is so special about that Tallinn sweater. Wait for a second and I’ll tell you 😉
Tallinn is a small capital in Northern Europe, for a country called Estonia. And if you are still wondering, this is the city I was born and still live. So it was natural for me to buy this pattern and make it 🙂
I found out that turtlenecks and cowls aren’t my thing so on my final you can’t see any of them. Instead I used cowl neck cutting line and added binding. My favorite thing is that I didn’t need to add length to sleeves, they were exactly the length I liked and I have long arms!
My dream was to have first photos of this sweater in beautiful streets of Tallinn, but well.. Life got on way, so instead you’ll see that beautiful corner of our apartment 😀 Next Tallinn sweater will be seen on beautiful background 😉
Fabric: Floral FT, ordered from local fabric group
Pattern: Hey June Tallinn Sweater (Aff link)
Price paid: fabric 14€/m, pattern $8.50

Breaking Ground – Love Notions Margot peplum

I was so excited when I chose my next project, I had always dreamed about beautifully fitting peplum (I have never owned one!) and because of that chose my longsitting pattern Love Notions Margot peplum. This project was fail. At first – I messed up with my differential so I got lettuce hems (And my sewing machine needs to be serviced so I can’t fix it now.. ). Next thing, it had extremely wide sleeves! I took in 3cm total from each sleeve and they were still wide! Next time I’ll definitely take them in before sewing it together… I chose the easiest version for my peplum (swing skirt), but now feel that I maybe should have chosen pleated skirt. I would have loved long sleeves, but I was tight with fabric. And then I managed to screw up my neckband.
Pattern: Love Notions Margot peplum (Afflink)
Fabric: Stenzo black CL (95%/5%) 220gsm
Price paid: fabric – 16€/m pattern – 5.37$ (bought during sale)

I think that with this pattern it might have been easily my error of sewing.. And fabric choice.. If you have any ideas how I could avoid being so frustrated next time let me know 😉
Feel free to enjoy my latest sewing failure! 😀

Breaking ground – MBJM harem pants

To be honest, I had completely different ideas for this blog tour, but time got onto my way, so here I am with my first sew that “broke ground“. Made By Jack’s Mom Harem pants were my choice for today for many reasons. At first – my sewing machine decided that she needs to be serviced so I only have my serger on hand and needed quick sews I can make with only serger. Secondly, I managed to grab the pattern for free during their big FB group members party. Third reason was the fact that DD needed some new pants because I am trying to potty train her and this means tons of wet pants. To be honest I had previously made her Speedy pants undies (and will continue making them because they are awesome scrap busters while still useful, especially while potty training 😀 There was one thing I disliked about choosing harem pants.. I hate the waste they make.. those small scraps that are too small to make anything awesome. But here I am, breaking ground with making something I wouldn’t usually making. Making clothes of a pattern designer I had never tried making true clothes before. And also, My first pair of fully serged pants! Harem pants are cut on fold and to identical pieces or front and back. When usually this is a big problem, harem pants are roomy on top so this isn’t such a big problem. I actually didn’t read instructions because – harem pants! 😀 I did put the waistband seam on the back so hubby knows which way to put them on. Fabric was chosen by DS.
Fabric: 95%CO 5%EL I think from Stenzo. The color is really hard to photograph but it is beautifully vibrant!
Pattern: Made by Jack’s Mom – Harem Pants (I can only link to Etsy because I live in Europe)
Price paid: for the pattern 0€ (celebration of 7k FB group members), for fabric 16€/m, used around 30cm I think 🙂

Now onto the photos, feel free to enjoy that almost two year old who doesn’t like her photos being taken 😀

I am delighted to welcome you to Ladies Fun Tee testers roundup tour. Lauren, the designer behind Sew by Pattern Pieces, has been absolutely wonderful to work with. She made sure that during testing we’ll get perfectly fitting tees.

When we are talking about the pattern, this is my new love and I don’t think it will ever go out of my basics collection. Featuring already done SBA and FBA on front pieces. Relaxed and slim fit. Scoop neck, round neck, v-neck. Cap sleeve, short sleeve, 3/4 sleeve, long sleeve, short gathered sleeve and long gathered sleeve. Can you already see how many options this one has? If I counted right, it has 36 different looks! And with a size range of EU32-EU52, bust size A-G, you definitely do not want to miss it 🙂

Oh, so you are waiting for photos? Really 😉 Wouldn’t have guessed! The day we took the photos was cold, I mean cold! I ended up with ear infection. Thankfully I am used to this and have some antibiotics just-in-case at home, so it ended quickly 🙂 But the cold isn’t the question, I am just secretly wishing I had all the time Maris with me to take some quick sewing portfolio photos 😀 These photos she took with my crappy camera and they are edited with my crappy editing skills but they still look amazing 🙂

Fall outfit for kids: SewLongSummer Blog tour

Sew Long Summer in Estonia is for me like saying goodbye to summer – and that happens fast here. Currently summer is giving away it’s position (Thank you summer! It was fun!) and temperatures keep dropping. Although today it is pretty warm the “old wives summer” is ending and we need to focus on fall.

When you live in northern part of the temperate climate zone autumn means jackets, coveralls, hats and scarves. And since our climate is what it is I don’t want to take my time to make a jacket for kids that might get only couple of wears. They have different kinds of jackets and because of that some of them may only get worn once or twice. For example – when I think of Liisa’s autumn jackets she has one jean and one faux leather jacket, a woollen coat, two lighter jackets,  one rubber jacket, one padded jacket and one windfleece jacket. See what I am talking about? 🙂 On the worst weather days I take my beloved Polarn o. Pyret jackets and coveralls. And since these are so good… I just don’t see why I should make one by myself. This is why I couldn’t focus my Sew Long Summer post for making a coat or jacket.sls-2_1

I have had problems how to make great outfits with outerwear, I think I have come to a solution by now! I just use awesome scarves, hats and pants! So when I started to think about an outfit for that post I took a quite vintage jean jacket (by Polarn o. Pyret, I think it shows perfectly how good quality these clothes are, worn by at least 5 kids and still looking excellent!) and looked how to make it more girly. Since I just fell in love by applique (Thanks Melissa!) I started with a simple heart on the back. It still looked a bit plain. I then found my laces (Whenever I see beautiful lace I buy it, it doesn’t matter I don’t usually use them) and one of them looked perfect on the bottom of the jean jacket. When that was in place it still looked plain on the front so I added little detail above pocket.

SLS 2_3.jpg

Next part of the outfit was pants – which ones look good and are comfy? Slim but not leggings, has pockets, comfy waist.. Do you know what I am trying to say? 🙂 I love SLMM (Sew like my mom) and needless to say, Boxwood joggers were my choice. Especially since these were already cut out. On a side note, these are a testing version and original pattern is tad bit wider and waistband is slightly different.

SLS 2_2.jpg

Jacket – check, pants – check. What else? A scarf – this is the part where I cheated and went to my bag full of buffs (yes, I have a bag which is full of new buffs) and found one that looked good. Now onto hat – at first I thought about headband but quickly realized – in Estonia hat gets more worn. I went for a slightly different look than usual so I used Heidi and Finn free slouchy beanie pattern. On a regular time it is tad bit too slouchy for my liking but it matches the look I am going for.

sls-2_8

Shirt – although it won’t be seen a lot I was at first thinking about Pistachio tee (SLMM again), but I quickly reminded myself – you need to rest too! Then I went with applique and H&M shirt – perfect! 🙂

sls-2_5

So here is the outfit – autumn outfit with a summery feel. All those stars remind me falling stars of August. Light blue is such a summery color. Lace on that jean jacket gives that extra summer look. Sew Long Summer! See you next year! 🙂

SLS 2_7.jpg

But when we talk about these photos.. This is what you get when you procrastinate! Someone had really late nap so we ended up taking photos too late, which ended up at ISO800! oops! So when I’ll have some more time we’ll make new ones with better quality and I’ll show you these too!
